Abstract: Mitochondria are an organelle that widely exists in eukaryotic cells and provide energy for the body. Mitophagy is of great significance on clearing dysfunctional mitochondria, maintaining mitochondrial dynamic equilibrium and cellular homeostasis. In recent years, the effect of mitophagy on female reproduction in animals received increasing attention. Based on the physiological function of mitophagy, the effect of mitophagy on female reproductive function in the aspects of main reproductive organs and tissues, oocytes, granulosa cells and embryos of female animals were reviewed in this article.
