Acta Veterinaria et Zootechnica Sinica (AVZS) is a monthly academic journal supervised by the China Association for Science and Technology, sponsored by Chinese Association of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine (CAAV), and edited by the Editorial Committee of AVZS and Institute of Animal Sciences, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. First published in 1956, AVZS is one of the earliest scholarly journals in animal and veterinary sciences of China.
The purpose of AVZS is to report the most innovative, breakthrough, and frontier scientific research achievements in the field of animal husbandry and veterinary studies in China. The main sections include Reviews, Genetics and Breeding, Biotechnology and Reproduction, Nutrition and Feed, Preventive Veterinary Medicine, Basic Veterinary Medicine, Clinical Veterinary Medicine, and Research Briefs.
AVZS has an editorial board consisting of 65 well-known experts and scholars in the field, including 7 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The journal relies on a strict peer review system to ensure the academic level of the published papers, and all published articles must be reviewed by at least two peer experts and finally reviewed by the editor-in-chief.
AVZS has been selected as a core journal by the Peking University Library for 10 consecutive times (1992-2023) and is currently at the top of the core journal list in the category of "Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Medicine, Hunting, Sericulture, Apiculture" . It is a core journal of Chinese Science and Technology Paper Citation Database(CSTPCD) and a source journal in the Core Library (C) of the Chinese Science Citation Database (CSCD). It is included in the "World Journal Impact Index (WJCI) Report". AVZS is also indexed in some international index systems, such as CA (Chemical Abstracts, USA), CABI (Centre for Agriculture and Biosciences International, UK), ZR (Zoological Record, UK), JST (Japan Science and Technology Agency), Ulrich’s PD (Ulrich’s Periodicals Directory), DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals, Sweden), and CSA (Cambridge Scientific Abstracts, USA).
AVZS has been awarded the title of "Top 100 Chinese Outstanding Academic Journals" by the China Science and Technology Information Research Institute for three consecutive years (2013, 2014, 2015). It has been rated as a "Chinese Outstanding Science and Technology Journal" in 2008, 2014, and 2017. It has been awarded the China Association for Science and Technology's Outstanding Science and Technology Journal Project for six consecutive years from 2006 to 2014. In 2022, it was selected for the China Association for Science and Technology's Journal Publishing Capacity Enhancement Plan, being the only journal in the field of animal husbandry and veterinary medicine.
AVZS is a fully open-access journal with an independent website and full-text database. It provides free access to current papers and full texts of past issues since its inception. The entire process from submission, review, to revision is conducted online.
