Abstract: In a discrete generation population, the potential extra genetic gain was studied while the genetic contribution of candidate and the relative weight given to QTL were optimized using the random computer simulation. In a simulated example of practical breeding population for pig, the number born alive (NBA) and days to 100 kg (D100) were selected, two QTLs of each trait were segregating together with polygenes across multiple generations. When compared with standard QTL or conventional BLUP selection, QTL optimized selection combined optimization for weights given to QTL and contributions of candidates substantially increased more selection response at a fixed rate of inbreeding, and avoided the conflict between short term and long term response.
