Abstract: Effects of Gushukang(GSK)on bone metabolism of laying hens were studied. 90 layers of 58-week old were randomly assigned to three groups. The control was provided with basal diet, the GSK group was provided with basal diet with addition of 1% GSK, the ipriflavone(IP)group was provided with addition 25 mg/kg IP. The experiments lasted for 90 days. The results indicated that the levels of Ca, P, AKP, TRACP, BGP in the serum from GSK and IP groups were decreased significantly; but bone index, bone radiographic density, cortical width, cortical area and cortical area ration of humerus, tibia and femur, and the level of serum IGF1 were higher significantly in the GSKgroup and IP group than the control. There was not significant difference between GSKgroup and IP-group. It was revealed that GSK can accelerate bone formation, inhibit bone resorption and improve bone metabolic profile of layers during the later laying period.
