Abstract: Effects of Gushukang(GSK)on bone metabolism of laying hens were studied. 90 layers of 58-week old were randomly assigned to three groups. The control was provided with basal diet, the GSK group was provided with basal diet with addition of 1% GSK, the ipriflavone(IP)group was provided with addition 25 mg/kg IP. The experiments lasted for 90 days. The results indicated that the levels of Ca, P, AKP, TRACP, BGP in the serum from GSK and IP groups were decreased significantly; but bone index, bone radiographic density, cortical width, cortical area and cortical area ration of humerus, tibia and femur, and the level of serum IGF1 were higher significantly in the GSKgroup and IP group than the control. There was not significant difference between GSKgroup and IP-group. It was revealed that GSK can accelerate bone formation, inhibit bone resorption and improve bone metabolic profile of layers during the later laying period.
